Chapter 345
Tap, tap—tap, tap—
Professor Laura took a deep breath as she quickened her pace down the corridor.
It was morning.
She was on her way to her classroom after the faculty meeting.
During that meeting, Professor Ortren, the instructor in charge of the upper first class, had stepped down due to “health reasons.”
Of course, Laura knew the real reason.
‘Because he lost his duel with Leo.’
To lose against a mere student—
and not just any student, but one from Lumene—
in a duel involving the Star’s Magic was something the Pureblood Society, which currently dominated Seiren, would never tolerate.
As a result, Ortren had been dismissed from his position as the upper first class homeroom instructor.
Seiren’s upper first class—that represented the most promising candidates to become future heroes.
Being the instructor in charge of them was a privilege granted only to the most distinguished professors of Seiren.
The moment it was announced that Ortren had stepped down, the eyes of every teacher at the meeting had gleamed with ambition.
Laura let out a quiet sigh.
‘A sudden change in homeroom teachers right before the midterms won’t be good for the students.’
That was what worried her most.
To the teachers, it might be an opportunity, but such large-scale reassignments always threw the students into confusion.
‘Anyway, I’ll just focus on teaching my own class properly!’
With exams drawing near, there wasn’t much time left.
The written test had its scope set, so that wasn’t a problem.
But the practical test—the most important part—had remained a mystery until today.
Now, the faculty meeting had revealed it.
Determined to inform her students right away, Laura arrived at the lower class.
‘First period is aura studies.’
Of course, she expected everyone to be busy with their individual training, so she prepared to call the class together.
Creak—!
When she opened the door, her eyes widened.
Every student was already seated.
“Good morning, Professor Laura!”
The students greeted her brightly.
“Good morning, everyone. But… first period is aura studies, isn’t it?”
Normally, this would be their self-training time. Seeing them all in the classroom was surprising.
Leo answered with a smile.
“We were having a study session.”
“A study session?”
“Yes. Some of them had questions about my duel with Professor Ortren.”
He looked around.
Every student—whether from the knight class or the summoner class—was staring at the board with sparkling eyes.
Just like when Laura taught the Star’s Magic, the room was filled with energy and focus.
“We were discussing strategies—how knights and summoners should coordinate when facing a powerful mage.”
That was something even Laura couldn’t easily teach.
“Thank you, Leo.”
At her words, Leo smiled faintly and returned to his seat.
Standing at the lectern, Laura cleared her throat.
“Everyone, the content of the midterm practical exam has been decided in today’s meeting.”
The room instantly grew tense.
The midterm’s practical test—it was the most critical one of all.
Seeing the nervous expressions around her, Laura spoke.
“It’s a monster subjugation.”
“Monster subjugation?”
The lower class students blinked in surprise.
“Yes. You’ll work together to defeat a powerful monster. Your rank will be based on how quickly you complete the subjugation, demonstrating your strategy, tactics, and teamwork.”
At that, Anri raised her hand.
“Professor, may I ask a question?”
“Yes, Anri.”
“That’s not all, is it?”
“No.”
The class groaned collectively as if they’d expected that answer.
“As you probably guessed, you’ll have to complete the subjugation using only Star’s Magic.”
A wave of sighs rippled through the classroom.
But Laura smiled gently.
“Don’t be discouraged. You all made up your minds, didn’t you? Think of this as an opportunity.”
Her tone grew firm.
“This is your chance to prove that none of you belong in the lower class.”
—
“I don’t quite get it.”
Anri tilted her head.
“If the exam only uses Star’s Magic, why are we doing aura training?”
They were gathered in the main hall where the lower class normally trained.
Knights, summoners, and mages—all of them were present.
Leo turned to Anri.
“Are you a mage? Planning to live as one forever?”
“Well, no, but…”
“Then you need to train your core discipline too.”
After answering, Leo looked at the summoners.
“The same goes for you.”
The leader among the summoner students, Berus, raised his hand.
“Lyle, I understand your point, but do you really think a magic swordsman’s training will help summoners?”
The other summoners nodded in agreement.
Leo smiled slightly.
“What I’m about to teach will help all of you.”
“What kind of magic is it?”
“Enhancement magic.”
Anri frowned.
“Enhancement magic? But Star’s Magic–type enhancement spells only exist as hereditary techniques passed down in noble families. There aren’t any general versions anyone can use.”
Enhancement magic—
a type of buff magic inspired by the Blessing Spells of fairies.
It was a technique Luna had often used in close combat.
She had fought in the frontlines, combining physical combat with bursts of devastating magic.
But in modern times, only a few bloodline-exclusive versions remained.
There were no general enhancement spells accessible to everyone.
“There is one.”
The entire class stared at Leo in disbelief.
“It strengthens your body—and it can even enhance familiars and spirits.”
Leo grabbed a portable chalkboard and wrote down a reconstructed spell formula.
It wasn’t Luna’s original spell but a modern reinterpretation he’d adapted for elves to use.
‘It’s weaker than the original, but still plenty powerful.’
“Whoa!”
“Incredible!”
The students eagerly copied the formula into their notebooks.
Anri approached him.
“Is it okay for you to just share something like this?”
For a mage, personal spells were invaluable property—
especially a Star’s Magic enhancement spell that anyone could use just by learning the formula.
Anri couldn’t hide her surprise.
Leo answered calmly.
“She would’ve been furious if she saw you all being denied the chance to learn.”
“She? Who do you mean?”
“Your great senior.”
If Luna had seen these students being deprived of learning, she would’ve exploded with rage.
‘She would’ve smashed every one of those Pureblood bastards’ skulls to dust.’
Leo smiled faintly at Anri.
“Don’t overthink it. Just do your best. That’s enough.”
Anri blinked at him and then turned slightly red.
‘He’s the same age as us, but… he feels so mature.’
Pulling out her notebook, she copied the spell down.
“Everyone! Let’s do our best! We’ll show Seiren that we can stand tall too!”
As the de facto class leader, Anri encouraged her classmates.
“Yeah!”
“Let’s go!”
The students shouted enthusiastically.
“Hmph, noisy lot.”
Outside the hall, a group of elf students passing by sneered.
“So the lower-class trash is getting cocky just because one of them beat Professor Ortren by luck?”
“What’s the point of trying?”
The upper first class students laughed mockingly.
Their new homeroom teacher, Geras, smirked.
“There are always those who delude themselves into thinking effort can surpass talent.”
He smiled thinly.
“You all simply need to show them how meaningless such fantasies are.”
His students grinned confidently.
Creak—
At that moment, Eclere quietly peeked through the hall door, watching the lower class’s cheerful atmosphere.
“…I’m jealous.”
It was the complete opposite of her class.
In the upper first class, everyone hid their notes, competed bitterly, and tried to step on each other to rise higher.
But here, everyone shared what they learned, smiling and studying together—
the kind of school life Eclere had always dreamed of.
“Eclere.”
“Y-Yes?!”
“What are you looking at?”
Geras’s cold gaze bore into her.
“Eclere, remember—the position of first-year representative depends on your midterm results. You should be more focused.”
“…Yes, Professor.”
Her ears drooped.
Her classmates snickered behind her and shot her hostile glances.
‘I might not beat Lea, but I can beat Eclere.’
‘This time, I’ll be the class representative.’
Feeling the weight of their gazes, Eclere hunched her shoulders.
Tap—
Second-ranked student Elric gently patted her back.
“Don’t mind them.”
“Yeah. I won’t.”
Eclere smiled faintly and glanced once more toward the lower class before walking away.
“Now then, everyone,” Geras said, his voice dripping with pride.
“Prepare yourselves. I’ll give you a lesson unlike anything you’ve experienced before.”
‘That fool Ortren was nothing compared to me. I’ll prove I’m the true teacher fit for the upper first class.’
He had previously been in charge of the upper second class.
‘Even that was beneath me.’
A smug smile crept across Geras’s lips.
—
“How’s Leo Plov doing?”
“He’s mingling with the lower-class students.”
“Hmph. How fitting.”
Luhagen snorted.
“Let’s hope he learns at least a little of Seiren’s educational ideals.”
“Unlikely.”
Orlen gave a crooked grin.
“But Lord Luhagen, about Seiren’s Hero Record… are you truly planning to destroy it?”
At that, Luhagen’s eyes hardened.
“Do you think that makes any sense?”
Orlen flinched.
“No one knows why Seiren left that letter, but this is for the glory of our noble elven race. Even if we must defy Seiren’s will, it is our duty to reveal the Hero Record to the world.”
Luhagen stood and gazed out the window overlooking Seiren’s vast campus.
“The era when the Founder of the Nebula, Lady Luna, descended from the Hero Record onto this land has come again.”
His eyes gleamed.
“Who’s to say Seiren himself cannot return as well?”
“There’s no law against it.”
“Exactly. Which is why we must preserve Seiren’s Hero Record and pass it down.”
Luhagen’s lips curved into a chilling smile.
“When the world learns of Seiren’s Hero Record, our entire race will rejoice as one. Even the Tingel family will have no choice but to support Seiren’s conquest.”
Step, step—
Luhagen stopped before the sealed Hero Record of Seiren.
“I’ll be unveiling it at the upcoming symposium. Be prepared.”
“Yes, Lord Luhagen.”
