Chapter 179: The World of the Arrogant Giants (5)
“I don’t know either,” he said.
This had always been the case for him. Even when he encountered apostles or met gods, he never suffered a severe mental blow.
The Giant King laughed.
“That’s an incredible ability, though it seems even you don’t fully understand it.”
The Giant King spoke quietly.
“Anyway, it’s fortunate to receive help from such an entity. Without it, we are destined for destruction.”
The Giant King turned his gaze to the writhing monster.
“You must have noticed something strange about the monsters as you came here.”
“They were too weak.”
At most, they were only C-rank. Even ordinary giants could easily defeat them. They were not of a level that could destroy the world.
Taesan could guess the reason.
“Is it because of that monster?”
“Indeed. The gods can only interfere with a world to a certain extent. Most of their power has been used on that monster. That’s why they can’t send more powerful monsters.”
The Giant King smiled bitterly.
“But we are growing weaker. Even I find it difficult just to suppress the monster’s waves so that the grand warriors can use magic.”
The Giant King was an immortal, a being who had surpassed the limits of lifespan, but he looked incredibly old.
Taesan asked.
“Can’t you just kill it?”
The monster certainly exuded a dreadful presence, but Taesan judged that the Giant King could kill it. However, the Giant King shook his head.
“If I could, I would have done so several times over.”
The Giant King raised his hand and clenched his fist.
Crash!
Thousands of magical arrows pierced the monster within the barrier. The arrows rained down so intensely that the monster’s form was unrecognizable, and the Giant King watched calmly.
“That monster is designed so that giants cannot kill it.”
The monster writhed and began to reassemble its broken flesh.
“That thing makes us forget magic, but it cannot kill a giant. Over time, it will even start to corrode our bodies. It’s a being created solely to kill us.”
Taesan realized why the God of Magic had sent him here.
“So I’m asking you. Kill it.”
The Giant King’s flickering eyes turned to Taesan.
“You are unaffected by the monster’s waves. And since you’re not a giant, you can inflict effective damage on it. That’s why the God of Magic sent you. Please, human.”
Taesan nodded.
“Alright.”
He had come here for that purpose from the beginning. Although the situation was different from his initial expectations, defeating that monster would likely clear the quest. There was no reason to refuse.
Most importantly, it was an opportunity to stick it to the gods who were trampling Earth.
Taesan felt pleased at the thought.
Having received Taesan’s agreement, the Giant King smiled.
“Thank you. I’ll ensure you receive a fitting reward.”
“So, what do I need to do? Just kill it?”
“That won’t do.”
The Giant King shook his head.
“That monster is not only a threat to us but also acts as a kind of limit. The moment we touch it, the gods will open a portal and unleash more monsters.”
“Can’t you stop them?”
The Giant King was an immortal with power far beyond the Guide of Sin’s leadership. He could crush monsters with a flick of his finger, but he smiled bitterly.
“I cannot touch the monster.”
The Giant King pointed to the monster with his finger.
The monster was still emitting wriggling waves.
“If the seal suppressing the monster is lifted, it will spread its waves more intensely and widely. Then, everyone except the grand warriors and me will go mad. I must prevent that.”
“Not even an immortal’s power is enough?”
“If it were such a simple monster, I would have eliminated it long ago. The gods are cunning and sly.”
Taesan understood this well, having suffered from them in his past life.
“How do you plan to stop the monsters?”
Taesan had to focus on defeating that monster. The Giant King replied.
“Therefore, I will gather those who can withstand the monsters.”
The Giant King ordered the grand warriors.
“Except for Havriam, go to each territory and summon the lords. Tell them their king calls and to prepare for battle.”
The grand warriors silently acknowledged and left.
“It will take some time to gather everyone. As a token of appreciation, take this.”
The Giant King waved his fingers, and a mysterious power enveloped Taesan.
[You have learned the beginner rune magic [White Rune Shield]. ]
[Beginner Rune Magic: White Rune Shield ]
[Mana Cost: 30 ]
[Proficiency: 1% ]
[Summons small shields engraved with mystical rune characters around you. The magic contained in the shields is still insignificant. ]
Taesan’s eyes sparkled. The Giant King spoke.
“It’s our magic. It’s not as powerful as that of the God of Magic, but it’s usable. If you ask Havriam, you can spar and practice with it.”
“Got it.”
Taesan followed the Giant King’s instructions.
While the giants gathered at the castle, Taesan continued training with the grand warrior. Although the grand warrior’s strength was inferior to his, the level of their magic was much higher, providing a decent sparring partner.
His proficiency in magic increased slightly, and he got a rough idea of how to use the White Rune Shield.
Finally, all the giants arrived.
“They’re all here.”
Umberak muttered as he surveyed the gathered giants. He recognized many faces.
Each one was a lord of a territory.
There were lords who managed small lands and those who governed ten times as much.
Over a hundred lords had gathered.
“What on earth is going on…”
Umberak frowned.
A human had visited his territory, strong monsters had suddenly appeared, and the human had defeated them.
Following the human’s request, he sent a messenger to the Giant King, and before the messenger even arrived, four grand warriors came and took the human away.
He thought everything was over, but only a few days later, the grand warriors returned, saying the king had summoned him.
With so many events occurring in such a short time, Umberak still couldn’t grasp the situation fully.
Even Taesan, who knew the rough circumstances, felt this way, so the other giants were even more confused. They waited anxiously for their king.
Creak.
The door opened.
The Giant King appeared, and the giants hurriedly bowed.
“We greet our king!”
They all shouted in unison, their eyes filled with reverence as they looked at the Giant King.
For hundreds of years, he had protected them as the strongest giant.
But their eyes also held questions.
It was rare for them to see their king, perhaps once every few years. It was strange to be gathered like this.
The Giant King spoke.
“I have something to tell you.”
He began to explain about the monster in the castle, how they had forgotten magic, and that he intended to kill the monster.
The giants were bewildered by his words.
“My king? What do you mean?”
“How could we have forgotten magic? That’s impossible.”
The giants denied their king’s words. The interference had not happened overnight but over a thousand years, so they had gradually forgotten the existence of magic.
Expecting this, the Giant King turned around.
“Follow me.”
The Giant King led them to the monster. As they got closer, the giants’ faces began to contort. Some couldn’t endure it and collapsed to the ground.
“Is this the limit?”
“Ugh…”
Some even retched.
A horrible sensation shook their brains and tore through their bodies.
In the end, they couldn’t proceed further.
The Giant King brought them back to the hall. The giants, barely regaining their composure, caught their breath.
They realized something dreadful was in the castle.
The Giant King spoke.
“Do you believe me now?”
“Yes…”
The giants nodded. They couldn’t be certain about magic, but they knew something was attacking them.
That was enough.
“You are all strong. That’s why you became lords.”
They revered strength. To govern a territory, one had to be stronger than anyone else. Each of them had the power to defeat B-rank monsters.
“Will you help me fight those interfering with us?”
“Yes!”
They shouted with conviction, their eyes burning with fighting spirit.
The Giant King smiled in satisfaction.
“That’s the spirit.”
The Giant King explained that to kill the monster in the castle, the seal had to be lifted. But once the seal was lifted, monsters would come pouring out.
That’s why he had called them.
Umberak quietly asked.
“Is it just us gathered here?”
“When the seal is lifted, the monster will spread its waves, and I must focus on suppressing them. Those weaker than you will be affected by the monster despite my protection. They would be of no help.”
“Then, will you handle the monster in the castle?”
“No, I will concentrate on blocking the waves. Someone else will face the monster.”
The Giant King turned his gaze.
“Come out.”
Taesan appeared.
The giants were taken aback at the sight of him.
“A human?”
“Why is a human here?”
Only Umberak remained calm, while the others looked on with disbelief and doubt.
“He will defeat the monster.”
“But my king, he’s a human…”
The giant trailed off, their gaze at Taesan revealing their thoughts.
The Giant King laughed.
“Please, help us.”
“Remember this later.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll reward you handsomely when this is over.”
Taesan stepped forward, beckoning to the one who had objected.
“Too lazy to explain. Come at me.”
The giant gave Taesan a dubious look.
“Human, you seem strong, but you can’t match us. We are the strongest race…”
“Shut up.”
Taesan scowled and charged.
The giant hurriedly raised his arms to block.
Taesan’s punch broke through, sending the giant flying into the wall.
Everyone’s eyes widened. Taesan nonchalantly spoke.
“Want to test it? All of you, come at me.”
“I’ll pass.”
Umberak stepped back.
The giants’ eyes glinted.
They moved.
The next day, no one questioned Taesan’s presence.
Umberak approached Taesan with a smile.
“Nice to see you again.”
“Hello.”
“Haha, so there’s a monster like that inside… Amazing. You were right after all.”
Umberak murmured with a complex expression.
“So the God of Magic personally sent you to help us?”
Taesan nodded. Umberak sighed.
“We’ve forgotten magic, the gods, and the God of Magic. So much has happened. Has the God of Magic been watching over us all this time?”
“Probably.”
Taesan had considered this.
Why couldn’t the God of Magic descend here?
It was likely due to the gods’ interference.
If their interference ceased, could the God of Magic descend here?
Depending on the situation, it could be a strategy.
Taesan continued to assess the situation.
The next day, everything was ready.
