[Skill Rank Up!]
[The rank of the Mana Heart skill has risen to <Sword Expert – Low>.]
The message floated before his eyes.
But Lloyd remained in a trance.
His eyes were open, but nothing registered.
He simply sat in place, focused solely on his inner self.
VRRRMMMM—!
The Mana Heart wrapped in the three rotating Circles.
Through those Circles, Mana of miraculous density and purity surged inward.
The experience was overwhelming even for Lloyd.
‘Gh-!’
Just a fragment.
A single breath.
Even that much Mana entering caused his entire Mana Heart to quake.
It felt like a typhoon had entered a teacup.
Or like the sea had been poured into a bucket.
He couldn’t withstand the storm-like influx of Mana.
He barely managed to contain a fraction of it.
Even that tore the Mana Heart apart.
CRACK—!
‘Guh!’
The shock of his Mana being torn to pieces.
A massive pain shook his insides.
Yet at the same time, it felt refreshing.
The thrill of regeneration that follows complete destruction.
Before he knew it, the Mana Heart had recovered.
Bigger and sturdier than before.
Able to hold just a bit more Mana.
But the Mana pouring in from the Queen was still overwhelming.
So the freshly restored Mana Heart was shattered again. Then repaired. Then broken. Then regenerated.
A nonstop cycle of destruction and regeneration.
Through it all, sweat poured from Lloyd like rain.
Dark sweat seeped from every pore of his body.
It was turbidity—impure energy that had accumulated throughout his life.
But that turbidity was being expelled, pushed out by the massive internal turbulence as he endured and absorbed the Swordmaster’s powerful Mana head-on.
‘Ngh…’
His entire body trembled.
Yet within that trance, he endured.
And so passed the brutal, torture-like five minutes.
Finally, the three Circles—once raging like black holes—began to settle.
Vrrrmmm…
Their rotation slowed.
The ferocious, ravenous absorption came to a halt.
In the meantime, the area around Lloyd had been utterly devastated.
A seven-meter radius around him.
Nothing within that range remained intact.
The table had completely shriveled and crumbled to dust.
So had the chair beside it.
The rose left no trace.
Even the bugs were no exception.
Anything made of metal had rusted through.
Even the bricks forming the walls and ceiling had turned brittle.
Amid that violent zone of absorption, the only thing left unscathed was Her Majesty Queen Alicia.
“Hahh, haahh… hah!”
Was it finally over?
It wasn’t going to start again, was it?
‘Please don’t.’
She didn’t think she could endure another round.
Her face ghostly pale, Queen Alicia barely managed to lift her head.
That Mana absorption had been monstrous.
She felt proud just for having survived it.
‘Even a mid- or high-tier Sword Expert probably couldn’t have withstood that.’
They would’ve been completely drained of Mana.
In the end, even their life force would have been sucked away.
Leaving behind a dried-up husk.
The thought alone made her skin crawl.
‘What in the world… is this technique?’
Her trembling gaze turned toward Lloyd.
There he sat quietly at the center of that lethal Mana absorption field.
He slowly opened his eyes.
The same black eyes as before.
But with all the turbidity in his body expelled, his gaze looked much clearer now.
‘Ah.’
Only after opening his eyes did Lloyd finally notice the message in front of him.
‘What the…’
Ding-dong.
[Skill Rank Up!]

[Current RP: 4,029]
‘What is this?’
Lloyd’s eyes widened blankly.
Equal parts joy and disbelief.
And for good reason.
All he did was activate the [Rapid Recharge] option of the Asrahan Heart Technique.
The new option just seemed fitting for the moment.
It felt like the perfect time to test its performance.
So he activated it.
Then closed his eyes.
And fell into a trance.
It felt like he had closed his eyes for just a few seconds.
But when he opened them?
He was now a [Sword Expert – Low]!
‘Wait… has it already been five minutes? Even if it has, how could I have reached Expert Low rank in that time?’
He couldn’t believe it.
But it was impossible to deny.
Because of the scene around him, reduced to literal ruin.
The completely crumbled table and chair.
The rusted metal fixtures.
Even the bricks looked flaky.
The carpet had faded like it had aged a hundred years.
And just five steps ahead, the Queen sat staring at him in shock.
“You… What are you…?”
Queen Alicia, uncharacteristically stammering.
Her complexion looked far worse than earlier.
She hadn’t even looked this pale when she was poisoned.
Now she looked like someone who had suffered a yearlong illness without seeing the sun once.
‘Don’t tell me I did that?’
It seemed he did.
Recalling the message about the [Rapid Recharge] option, it all made perfect sense.
‘It did say it would absorb large amounts of Mana from random sources around me.’
But he never imagined it would lay waste to his surroundings like this.
Nor did he expect it to absorb Mana with such overwhelming force.
Lloyd felt a bit sheepish.
Still, he put on a bold face.
Now wasn’t the time to dwell on minor details.
At any rate, the Queen’s poisoning had been cured.
And he was alive too.
Now, it was time to help Javier.
‘Javier’s up against a Swordmaster, after all.’
He was worried.
Even if Javier was blessed with incredible talent from birth, the opponent was still Sir Cherny—a powerful Swordmaster.
There was no telling how long Javier, not a Swordmaster himself, could hold out against such a foe.
No, if things had gone badly, he might already be down.
‘Please, don’t let it be that.’
Anxious, he sprang to his feet.
Thankfully, his legs didn’t give out.
In fact, maybe because his rank had risen to [Sword Expert – Low], his body was brimming with strength.
He moved quickly and helped the Queen to her feet.
“Your Majesty, are you all right?”
“Do I look all right to you?”
“……”
“Let me ask again—what exactly are you? What did you just do?”
The Queen’s eyes were filled with suspicion.
Her gaze shifted to the gaping hole in the ceiling that exposed the night sky, then back to him like a sharp arrow.
“That explosive outburst of Mana earlier, and then the overwhelming absorption that drained my Mana… I’ve never heard of any technique like that.”
“No, I don’t think you would have, Your Majesty.”
“Can you tell me about it?”
“Of course. But might I ask to delay that explanation for a little later?”
“Because of the silver-haired knight who follows you? Sir Asrahan?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“You’re worried about him?”
“I must move quickly to help him.”
“I feel the same. Let’s go then. Can you carry me?”
“It would be an honor.”
He quickly offered his back.
The Queen climbed on without hesitation.
“Then, I’m off.”
He didn’t wait for a reply.
He launched off the ground.
BOOM—!
His leap was much faster than before.
Using that momentum, he burst out of the break room.
He dashed down the long corridor.
And the whole time, he prayed in his heart.
‘Javier, please be safe.’
As soon as he reached the banquet hall, he would join the fight.
Stand shoulder to shoulder with Javier and face Sir Cherny.
That was his vow.
‘I can be of some help now. I’m Sword Expert – Low.’
And he also had a [Triple Circle].
If push came to shove, he could unleash a [Triple Detonation] and let fate decide.
It was basically a lottery shot—but considering Cherny had no intel on his techniques, it might just deal a significant blow.
‘So hold on, just a little longer!’
TATATAT! TATACK!
He sprinted across the corridor beneath the swaying chandelier.
Rounded the corner and jumped down the stairs in a single bound.
Meanwhile, on Lloyd’s back, the Queen focused on recovery.
‘Good. Just a bit more.’
The Swordmaster’s signature circulation.
That flow of Mana was still running through her.
Thanks to that, her complexion rapidly improved as she rode on Lloyd’s back.
Color returned to her once-pale face.
Her depleted muscles regained strength.
‘This is about a third of my usual strength.’
Not an ideal condition.
But it was enough to fight.
And with Javier, Lloyd, and the Royal Guards in the banquet hall, it seemed likely they could overpower Sir Cherny.
‘Sir Cherny.’
A sorrowful rage flickered in her eyes.
Her long-time guard captain and swordsmanship instructor.
The subordinate she trusted more than anyone in the world.
And today, the traitor who held a blade to her throat.
‘Why? Why would he do this?’
She couldn’t understand.
Why did he betray her?
Who was behind it all?
She tried to piece it together in anguish, but no clear answer surfaced.
Everything was still clouded in fog and scattered in fragments.
All the more, venom seeped into Queen Alicia’s gaze.
‘Sir Cherny. I won’t give up on you. I won’t let you die so easily. I will uncover the truth behind your betrayal with my own hands.’
And then she would sever his head herself—with no hesitation.
‘That’s the only farewell I can offer a loyal retainer I once cherished.’
CRACK.
Cold fury.
Grim loss.
Within that, the Queen’s shoulders trembled.
And she braced herself for the blood-soaked battle ahead.
At that moment, Lloyd turned the final corner of the hallway.
TAH—!
“Huh?”
Lloyd flinched as he was about to charge ahead.
He instinctively halted his leap.
Then looked ahead.
“Javier?”
His eyes stopped at the corridor exit.
There stood a man, facing away from them.
The chandelier lighting the banquet hall shone brightly behind him.
The glint of a longsword flashing from the hall.
The silhouette was unclear due to the dazzling backlight.
But even that outline was enough.
“Javier? Are you all right?”
“Yes, Sir Lloyd.”
Javier turned around.
He was smiling faintly.
Lloyd was about to snap at him.
How could he be smiling in a situation like this?
He was ready to scold him.
But he stopped himself mid-sentence.
Because only then did he notice the slumped figure hanging from Javier’s hand—gripped by the nape of the neck.
And that silhouette looked familiar.
‘No way…’
He blinked.
Looked again, and it was clear.
“You didn’t… You caught Sir Cherny?”
“Yes, Sir Lloyd.”
“And you’re the one who took his right arm?”
“Yes, Sir Lloyd.”
“Then you—?”
“Yes?”
“Are you hurt anywhere?”
“No. Fortunately not.”
“Good. That’s all that matters.”
Really, that was enough.
That alone was all he needed.
Finally, a small, relieved smile crept across his face.
With sluggish steps, feeling the weight of delayed exhaustion, he stood shoulder to shoulder with Javier.
In that moment, the Queen slid off his back and stepped down to the floor.
She moved to stand between the two of them.
“Let all bear witness.”
A solemn, commanding voice.
Her roar, like that of a lioness, silenced the entire banquet hall.
The swords of the Royal Guards aimed at Javier were lowered.
Dozens of layers of encirclement around the banquet fell still, their bearers swallowing dryly.
“Tonight, Sir Cherny, Captain of the Royal Guard, attempted regicide. And here stand two who, risking great peril, saved their Queen’s life.”
Even poisoned.
Even with her strength drained.
She remained the indomitable sovereign—Alicia Termina Magentano.
Before her proud and unyielding proclamation, everyone in the hall dropped to their knees.
No one dared to lift their head.
None even glanced sideways.
All were inwardly struck with shock.
At last, the truth of the situation was revealed.
Sir Cherny—the trusted Captain of the Guard—was a traitor.
In that moment, every person unconsciously looked up.
They saw Lloyd, still standing by the Queen.
And finally, all realized.
Lloyd Frontera—
He was the one who protected the royal family tonight.
At the very moment of that realization, an unexpected message appeared before Lloyd’s eyes.
Ding-dong.
[You have achieved yet another shining accomplishment tonight.]
[Through the immense weight of the many feats and achievements you have built up thus far, a hidden condition has been fulfilled. A new system is now being unlocked.]
[<Praise System> has been activated.]
