The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman - Chapter 722
As Karoon made his way through the Main Hall to the Central Hall, Denier and Balder, who had remained in Zieghart to guard the main house, approached him.
“Thank you for your hard work,” Denier said, bowing respectfully.
“How did the war end? Judging by the look of the others, it seems like you had an easy victory,” Balder snorted, rolling his right shoulder back.
“It ended well enough.”
In his dignified manner, Karoon summarized the long, arduous war in a single sentence.
“Don’t just give such a short answer. Explain it properly! You all came back without sending any word, and no one has a clue what happened!”
Balder pounded his chest in frustration.
“I’ll explain,” said Chad, the leader of the Shadow Agents Division, stepping forward and bowing.
“In this war, the leader of the North-South Union was killed, and the other heads of the Five Demons were either killed or suffered injuries so severe they won’t be able to act for some time. It’s safe to say, as Central Hall Leader put it, it was an overwhelming victory.”
Chad raised a finger with a faint smile.
“So, as expected, other Five Demons forces got involved,” Balder murmured, furrowing his brows deeply.
“Who came among the Five Demons?”
“The Fallen One, the White Blood Cult Leader, the leader of the Shadows wearing a blue dragon helmet, and, finally, the Dragon Lord joined in.”
“The Dragon Lord? That meddling bastard went all the way there? Those lizard scum seem like they’re only out to hinder us….”
Balder waved his fingers dismissively, expressing his distaste for the Dragon Lord.
“They did only target us. From now on, all dragons are enemies of Zieghart.”
“What? Enemies?”
“What do you mean by that, Shadow Leader?”
Both Balder and Denier widened their eyes simultaneously.
“When we invaded the North-South Union’s headquarters….”
Chad briefly recounted the recent events for the two division leaders and the Zieghart swordsmen standing behind them.
“Is… is that really true?” Balder’s jaw trembled with disbelief.
“Raon stopped a Transcendent’s blade and saved the Head?”
“Yes. Though it was only for a split second, he withstood the Transcendent’s sword. Even the Head acknowledged it.”
Chad swallowed hard, as if still unable to believe his own words.
“….”
Denier looked down, his expression darkening.
“That brat… has he completely lost his mind?” Balder chuckled in disbelief.
“Defeating the Axe King and returning alive was praiseworthy enough, but saving the Head as well? What kind of monster is he?!”
He laughed, declaring Raon a true prodigy.
“Why are you so quiet? Aren’t you surprised?” Balder nudged Denier, who remained silent, with a smirk on his face.
“I’m too shocked to speak. As you said, he’s exceptional. You won’t find that kind of talent anywhere.”
Denier gave a faint smile and nodded.
“Denier.”
Karoon, who had been silent, narrowed his eyes as he looked at Denier.
“Your complexion is pale. Is it from an injury during the previous attack?”
“No, it’s just a bit of dizziness now that the tension has eased.”
Denier waved his hand, saying it was nothing serious.
“…I see.”
Karoon watched Denier rub his temples with a cold gaze.
“It’s only a matter of time before Sylvia and Raon become part of the direct line.”
Balder grinned, shifting his gaze to Karoon.
“This time, even you won’t be able to stop it.”
He raised his chin, teasing Karoon.
“I have no intention of stopping it.”
Without even looking at Balder, Karoon shook his head calmly.
“Hm? Really?”
Balder blinked, confused.
“Are you… drawn to Raon as well?”
“No, I despise him.”
Karoon replied firmly, scowling.
“I hate him so much that just looking at his face irritates me.”
“Then why…?”
“Raon saved the Head and beheaded the North-South Union leader. Ignoring his contributions after witnessing such achievements firsthand would be an insult to Zieghart’s name by my own hand.”
He shook his head, as if the thought of tarnishing Zieghart’s reputation bothered him more than his distaste for Raon.
“Always making simple things sound complicated,” Balder muttered, snorting as if he didn’t understand a word Karoon was saying.
“I’d rather beat those dragons to death than any of the Five Demons. I’ve never liked them, so maybe this is a good thing.”
He clenched his fist, declaring he would slaughter any dragons nearby.
“There’s a white dragon living in the nearby mountains. I’ll start by tearing that one apart.”
“Balder.”
Karoon raised his gaze, his eyes cold.
“Scout out the nest of the ancient dragon in the north.”
“An ancient dragon? Even with you by my side, that’d be too much unless we were Transcendents….”
Balder waved his hand dismissively, saying it wasn’t possible.
“Don’t worry. I’m not far from transcending.”
“Wha…?”
“What… what did you just say…?”
Denier and Balder quickly turned their heads toward him, their reactions audible.
“After witnessing the Head’s sword, I gained enlightenment. If I enter seclusion, I will be able to reach that realm.”
Karoon nodded confidently, as if certain he could break through the barrier to Transcendence.
“Unbelievable….”
Balder murmured, his lips quivering in astonishment.
“Transcendence….”
Denier moistened his dry lips, also in disbelief.
“It won’t take long, so start scouting out the ancient dragon’s nest in advance.”
Karoon issued his order to Balder and then turned his gaze.
“Burren.”
He narrowed his eyes as he looked at Burren, who stood awkwardly beside Chad.
“Among the Light Wind Division leaders, you are the weakest. You’re more than a level behind them. Is that the result you intended to show?”
Karoon’s crimson gaze turned cold and biting.
“That is….”
Burren clenched his lips tightly, unable to answer.
‘Damn it.’
He had nothing to say.
He wanted to argue, but he couldn’t.
As Karoon had said, his skills were currently behind Martha and Runaan’s, and he couldn’t see a way to catch up to them.
“Follow me.”
Without looking back, Karoon began to walk toward the Central Hall.
“But, I’m part of the Light Wind Division….”
“Did I say I would accept you? I merely want to fix your pathetic state.”
Karoon didn’t even look back, as if telling him to leave if he didn’t want to come.
“Let’s go.”
Chad gave a slight smile, gesturing toward Burren.
“Ah, yes.”
Burren bowed to Chad, Balder, and Denier before following Karoon.
“What’s up with him all of a sudden?”
Balder tapped his finger to his temple, twirling it.
“Did he catch some terminal illness?”
“It seems the recent war has brought about a change in him.”
Chad smiled faintly, watching Karoon and Burren walk a short distance ahead.
“….”
Denier’s gaze grew quiet as he watched the two of them from behind.
—
After all the attendants had fallen asleep, Raon went out to the lake behind the annex.
-Ugh!
Wrath patted his full belly with satisfaction.
-Eating out is fine, but there’s nothing like a home-cooked meal! Nothing out there compares to this house’s food!
He chuckled, adding that even the mango ice cream they’d had for dessert was excellent.
‘It’s not even your house.’
-What nonsense are you saying?! This is my house, my mother, and my attendants!
Wrath waved his round hands in the air, declaring the entire annex his own.
‘Fine, think whatever you want.’
Raon sighed and shook his head. Since Wrath was calling Sylvia his mother, there was no point trying to reason with him.
-But why did you come out here? You should be resting after all that….
‘I grew rapidly. I need to gauge my current abilities.’
His stats had increased by 50 points in one go, his Sword Field Creation mastery had surged, and several of his traits had also leveled up.
There was no way he could sleep without verifying what had changed.
-Y-You’re doing that now?
‘Yes.’
-You’re truly insane! Who trains on the very day they return from war?
Wrath shouted that such madness didn’t exist in the human world, the celestial world, or even the demonic realm.
‘Right here.’
Raon pointed to himself and drew the Heavenly Drive, starting with his basic swordsmanship as always.
*Whoosh!*
The blade cut through the early morning air, the sensation feeling as tangible as his own skin.
His whole body felt lighter, as if he had transcended the limits of his physical vessel.
‘My physical strength and sensory precision have improved greatly.’
Raon felt the strength in his fingertips and smiled lightly.
‘This is the natural outcome of a 50-point increase.’
Even though stats became less effective as they increased, a sudden rise of 50 points made an obvious difference.
‘Now, next….’
After practicing basic swordsmanship, Raon moved on to the techniques of the *Fangs of Insanity*, *Glacier*, and *Skybound Sword* before lowering his Heavenly Drive.
‘My swordsmanship mastery has also reached a different level.’
Techniques like *Swift Sword*, *Heavy Sword*, *Adaptive Sword*, and *Illusory Sword* seemed to move on their own, as if they were alive.
Given this level of improvement while his internal injuries were still unhealed, he could probably perform even higher-level swordsmanship once fully recovered.
“Phew.”
Raon nodded with satisfaction, taking a deep breath.
‘Calling this overgrowth wouldn’t be an exaggeration.’
Thanks to this recent war, he’d surpassed a level that would normally take years of training to achieve. His growth rate was almost absurd.
But something else made him even happier.
‘Seeing Derus Robert’s twisted expression was priceless.’
Watching Derus’s shaken eyes as his plan to kill Glenn crumbled was far more gratifying than any power he had gained.
-Gah! You’re one twisted bastard.
Wrath shook his head, clearly perturbed.
-If you’re done, go back inside. This king is sleepy.
Yawning widely, Wrath retreated into the Ice Flower Bracelet.
“One last thing to confirm.”
With his Heavenly Drive still raised, Raon activated his newly acquired trait, *Blade That Cuts Through Death*.
*Whoosh!*
A pure, white aura bloomed along the icy blade. Though faint and mist-like, it burned with a subtle, mysterious power.
‘Wait for me, Derus Robert.’
Raon’s lips curled as he quietly felt the rising, tranquil energy.
‘The time to sever your head isn’t far off.’
* * *
Derus Robert left his office silently.
Even in the pre-dawn darkness, his appearance was immaculate. His hair lay still, and his blue long coat was as crisp as if freshly pressed.
“Father!”
As Derus ascended the stairs in a calm stride, Refon Robert hurried up, his steps heavy.
“Have you heard? The Six Kings won!”
Refon, seemingly having just returned from the information department, burst with excitement.
“And it wasn’t just any victory….”
He spread his arms like wings as he began recounting all that had happened at the North-South Union’s headquarters.
“Since Lord Raon saved Glenn Zieghart and beheaded the leader of the North-South Union, it’s fair to say he ended this war single-handedly!”
With clenched fists, Refon raised his hands to the sky.
“It’s exaggerated, but not inaccurate.”
Derus smiled indulgently, finding his youngest son’s excitement endearing.
“It’s a shame we were just on standby. I wish I could’ve seen Lord Raon block that sneak attack from the one wearing the dragon helmet!”
Refon bit his lip, frustrated that he hadn’t been on the battlefield.
“Refon, I understand your frustration, but our role was just as vital as those fighting. We served as a barrier against the other Five Demons forces.”
“I know, it’s just a bit disappointing!”
He chuckled, acknowledging the importance of the Robert family’s duty.
“That’s enough, then.”
Derus patted Refon’s head, smiling softly.
“Isn’t it time Lord Raon got a new title? ‘Dragon Slayer’ doesn’t quite cover him anymore….”
Refon rubbed his chin, suggesting that Raon needed a new title.
“You still admire the Light Wind Division Leader, I see.”
“Of course! I’m not the only one; no one dislikes him.”
He raised his hand, saying Raon’s renown was reaching the skies.
“Hm, then why don’t you try coming up with one? After all, fans usually create the best titles.”
“Can I really do that?”
Blushing slightly, Refon fidgeted with his arms.
“If you come up with a good name, the Light Wind Division Leader would probably like it.”
“T-Then you’ll take me to the next Six Kings meeting?”
“All right, but now go get some rest. You’ve been up all night waiting at the information department.”
“Got it!”
He bowed to Derus and returned to his quarters with an energetic stride, muttering possible titles for Raon under his breath all the way.
Watching him leave, Derus smiled warmly before heading upstairs to the family head’s study.
He paused for a moment outside the study, then opened the door slowly.
In the gentle moonlight filtering through, a man wearing a blue dragon helmet was leaning against the wall, blood dripping from his mouth.
Derus Robert’s silver eyes met the silver gaze within the blue dragon helmet, both calm and unwavering.
