The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman - Chapter 726
“Did you find it?”
Raon bent one knee, staring into the frog’s eyes, where Merlin and Garam resided.
“Yes. Below the Label River…”
“I’m talking right now.”
Merlin interrupted as Garam started to explain.
“Raon, why aren’t you looking at me?”
Merlin’s voice was chilling, as though it echoed from the depths.
– *Keek…*
Wrath grabbed his throat and tilted as if horrified.
“If you ignore me…”
“Merlin! Wait a second!”
Raon raised his hand toward the frog’s purple eyes.
“I’ll hear everything you want to say after I finish talking with Garam. Please, just wait.”
Swallowing dryly, he pleaded.
“Really?”
Merlin’s tone softened.
“Yes, I promise.”
Raon nodded, showing he meant it.
“Good!”
With Merlin smiling and backing off, the creepy purple glow in the frog’s eyes faded.
“Raon, it seems like you have it rough too.”
The frog opened its mouth, and Garam’s voice came through again, trailing off as if he felt sympathy.
“…Enough.”
Covering his reddening face, Raon placed the frog in his palm.
“Who did you find? Describe their appearance.”
When he returned to Zieghart, he had asked Garam to look for the bodies of the Five Demons that might be beneath the river. It seemed he had found one of them.
“It’s not a person—it’s a weapon.”
Garam shook his head, his tone calm.
“A weapon?”
“Yes. A black sword belonging to the red-haired man who suddenly entered the battlefield and challenged your grandfather.”
He smiled, saying he found the black sword deeply embedded in the river.
“Sword Saint…”
The only man who had challenged Glenn, the red-haired madman, was indeed the Sword Saint.
“No body was found?”
“No, there was none around.”
Garam shook his head, stating only the sword was embedded.
“What’s the condition of the black sword?”
“It has a few cracks, but it’s not broken. Maybe it could be repaired?”
“Hmm…”
Raon looked at the frog’s dark eyes, biting his lip.
‘Is he truly dead…?’
The Sword Saint was a lunatic who pushed aside the leaders of the Five Demons just to clash with Glenn’s sword. It was unlikely he’d leave his sword behind and vanish.
‘Especially since he faced the patriarch’s Heart Sword directly.’
While the other leaders of the Five Demons fled from Glenn’s Heart Sword, the Sword Saint, instead, leapt forward, studying the technique.
There was no way he could have survived that encounter.
‘But…’
The fact that the Sword Saint’s sword was intact was concerning. Though it had cracks, it wasn’t shattered, raising the possibility he might still be alive.
‘I should report this.’
The Sword Saint had shown he was not aligned with the Five Demons during this war. Even if he was alive, he wouldn’t join them again, but Glenn should know about it.
“Thank you, Garam.”
Raon smiled softly, patting the frog’s head.
“We’re friends, right!”
Garam chuckled, pretending it was nothing.
“But Raon.”
He suddenly lowered his voice mid-laughter.
“That masked woman… shouldn’t you seal her?”
Garam gulped, saying he feared the world would be in danger if Merlin was left unrestrained.
– *You understand well, dullard!*
Wrath nodded vigorously from his perch on the bracelet.
– *That madwoman shouldn’t be allowed to roam without a leash!*
He trembled, saying she absolutely must not be freed.
“What are you doing!”
Merlin’s voice exploded from the frog’s mouth where Garam resided.
“S-Sorry! I was just joking about the sealing…”
“Why are you the only one receiving Raon’s attention!”
With a jealous tone, the frog’s eyes flashed purple once more.
“Hah…”
Raon sighed, looking at the frog with a forced smile.
‘Is this more important than sealing?’
Merlin seemed far more offended about not getting Raon’s attention than about Garam’s thoughts of sealing her. She was clearly not normal.
“Move aside!”
“Hmph…”
He heard the sound of Merlin pushing Garam aside.
“Merlin.”
Raon sighed, raising a finger toward the frog’s eyes.
“Garam is the one who saved both you and me. I’d appreciate it if you showed him respect….”
“Understood!”
Before Raon could finish, Merlin nodded.
“Sir Garam, this girl was too rude. I will be careful from now on.”
Her voice took on a formal tone, one fit for royalty.
“N-No, it’s fine.”
Garam’s voice trembled.
“Sir Garam, it is only right to repay a life debt with another life. If there’s anyone you wish gone, just say the word, and I will sever their neck…”
“No! Don’t do it! Ahhh!”
Terrified, he let out a scream and disappeared.
“Merlin, stop scaring Garam and come over here.”
“I’m not scaring him. I’m sincere.”
Merlin chuckled, shaking her head.
“How’s your injury? Has it healed?”
“It hurt a bit, but after reading your letter of love, the pain vanished.”
She flicked her hand, saying the letter worked wonders.
“How is that a love letter…”
It was simply a letter thanking her for saving him and encouraging her. Why had it turned into a love letter? Raon felt more exhausted than after talking with Glenn.
“So what will you do next? I think you should travel…”
“Being by your side is the journey. A journey of love.”
Merlin shook her head, saying she didn’t need to go anywhere.
– *Keek…*
Unable to bear it, Wrath made a choking sound, rolling his eyes back.
“But I have something to confirm before I meet you.”
Merlin’s voice grew calm.
“Confirm?”
“Yes. I need to check the movements of the Five Demons and the dragons.”
She nodded thoughtfully, as if she had learned about the war situation from Garam.
“You’re no longer with the Five Demons. If you reveal yourself, they’ll attack immediately.”
“I know. I’ll be careful, so don’t worry.”
Merlin smiled, saying she would keep disguising herself as an animal.
“Still…”
“The Heavenly Demon might make a move.”
Just as Raon was about to stop her, she mentioned the Heavenly Demon.
“The Heavenly Demon…?”
“Yes. The Fallen One said the Heavenly Demon would make a move soon. He’s been raising a disciple for a while.”
Merlin bit her lip.
“The goal of the Heavenly Demon and the Fallen One is restoration. They want to turn the continent back to a paradise for monsters and resurrect the Demon Dragon. But their purposes diverge after that.”
Her gaze sharpened, saying she needed to understand the Heavenly Demon’s true motives.
“Even if you had a chance to come to Zieghart?”
“Yes. I still couldn’t. You’re more important to me than myself.”
Merlin waved dismissively, saying nothing would dissuade her. His chest tightened, feeling more moved than disturbed by her words.
“In that case, I have no choice….”
Raon sighed, meeting her gaze.
“Just be careful. I still owe you a debt.”
“You don’t have to repay it.”
Merlin shook her head as if it didn’t matter.
“Then it’s time to relay this one’s request.”
“Hmm…”
Raon swallowed dryly, nodding.
“It woke from hibernation and asks for a bedroom—a place that’s warm, soft, spacious, and quiet.”
“How am I supposed to suddenly find a place like that….”
“Please!”
As Merlin waved her hand, the frog’s purple eyes returned to black.
*Ribbit.*
The frog flicked its hind legs as if urging him to find a bedroom quickly.
“*Sigh…*”
Raon sighed, pointing to a spot near the lake.
“How about here?”
*Ribbit.*
The frog shook its head as if it disliked the dampness.
‘What kind of frog cares about dampness!’
Frowning, Raon moved near a flowerbed.
“Then how about here?”
*Ribbit.*
The frog shook its head, indicating the flowerbed’s roots were too entangling. It was proving to be a particularly fussy amphibian.
*Ribbit.*
The frog stuck out its tongue, suggesting it preferred North Mountain.
“Fine, let’s go….”
With a long sigh, Raon climbed North Mountain. By the time he returned to the annex, dawn had already broken.
—
“Mmm….”
Glenn slowly opened his eyes to the soft, pale purple of dawn outside the window.
“Did you cough, sir?”
Roenn placed a towel by Glenn’s bedside, smiling gently.
“It’s been a while since you slept so long, my lord.”
Sheryl, leaning against the wall as a guard, lifted a finger and laughed.
“What happened?”
Glenn furrowed his brow as he sat up.
“Did you lose your memory?”
Sheryl widened her eyes, approaching him.
“My lord, you nearly ascended in the banquet hall!”
“The banquet hall? Ascended?”
Touching his temple, Glenn lowered his gaze.
‘I feel like there was something joyous…’
Had he slept too long? He couldn’t remember what Sheryl was talking about.
“So happy, you erased the memory, it seems.”
Sheryl laughed in disbelief.
“You waited over twenty years….”
Roenn chuckled, saying it was understandable.
“Enough stalling; tell me what happened yesterday.”
Glenn narrowed his eyes at Sheryl and Roenn.
“My lord, you were finally called ‘grandfather’ by Raon!”
Sheryl twirled her lifted finger.
“Haha, and Lady Sylvia called you father.”
Roenn laughed beside her.
“G-Grandfather….”
Glenn’s jaw trembled as their words brought the memories back.
[*Mom should greet Grandfather first. Since she’s returned as a direct family member, it’s only proper for her to address Grandfather as father.*]
Thinking of Raon’s words, his lips curled, his heart racing as if it might burst, and his limbs felt weak.
*Thud!*
Glenn collapsed onto the floor by the bed, closing his eyes.
‘I can leave this world with no regrets now….’
His body glowed faintly, as if his soul was about to depart.
“Ah! Not again!”
“Quick, we have to catch him!”
Sheryl and Roenn rushed to Glenn, performing CPR.
*Cough!*
Glenn coughed violently, his color returning.
“Please get a hold of yourself! Why do you keep trying to ascend!”
“Hahaha….”
Sheryl yelled in frustration, while Roenn wiped the sweat from his brow.
“Ahem….”
Clearing his throat, Glenn leaned against the bed.
“It seems I waited too long. Just hearing Raon call me grandfather feels like my life’s purpose has been fulfilled.”
He waved his hand as if he would have had no regrets departing.
“It was especially moving to be called by both Sylvia and Raon.”
Glenn nodded, feeling as if his deepest wish had been granted.
“Both grew up well, unlike this fool.”
He closed his eyes, picturing Raon and Sylvia at the banquet with a gentle smile.
‘Ah….’
Just recalling that scene made his soul feel as if it were melting away. Had he been alone, he might have truly ascended.
After committing his daughter and grandson’s dignified presence to memory, he opened his eyes.
‘I feel light.’
It had been so long since he had slept this deeply.
Thanks to Raon and Sylvia, he finally had a restful sleep, feeling as if his lingering injuries had healed.
“This is why you mustn’t ascend here.”
Sheryl shook her head firmly.
“You need to live to see the children marry!”
“Indeed, my lord. You mentioned there’s much more to teach them.”
Roenn extended his hand as if imploring him to hold on.
“Yes, you’re right.”
With a faint smile, Glenn nodded.
‘I can’t leave yet.’
He had dealt severe wounds to the leaders of the Five Demons, but this peace wouldn’t last forever.
He had to impart his experiences and wisdom to everyone in Zieghart.
‘Raon, Sylvia.’
Glenn looked out at the golden sky, clenching his fist.
‘I will protect you both, no matter what.’
With a stronger resolve than ever, he stood up.
—
Raon stood alone in the training ground, channeling both the Ring of Fire and Glacier.
*Boom!*
The Ring of Fire pulsed through his heart, and Glacier rose from his soul, clashing fiercely in his middle danjeon as if they were enemies.
Despite the chest-rattling pain, he tried to harmonize the two, but they repelled each other like oil and water.
“Tch.”
Clicking his tongue, Raon lowered his hand.
‘It’s not easy.’
– *Fool. Why complicate things so?*
Wrath shook his head in disdain.
-*Simply rip off that lizard helm’s glove to reveal his true nature!*
He suggested tearing the glove off, scowling.
-*Even if he possesses a healing factor of celestial or demonic nature, the mark on his hand will remain.*
Indeed, Wrath seemed to have noticed Derus’s hand during the chaotic battle.
‘He’s not that easy.’
Raon shook his head calmly.
‘He doesn’t simply test the bridge; he builds a new one to cross.’
Derus wouldn’t overlook such a detail.
He’d likely conceal that mark in a way Raon couldn’t anticipate.
‘So I have to find a way to shatter his trickery.’
No matter what Derus tried, Raon needed a way to expose him.
-*Humans are insufferably complicated.*
Wrath mumbled that simply severing his head would suffice.
‘Let’s try again.’
Raon exhaled, spreading his hand.
As he attempted to merge the energies of Glacier and the Ring of Fire, they refused to blend.
‘Is it impossible to make them one?’
At this rate, even if he reached transcendence, it seemed he would never fully unite the two.
-*If hands don’t work, bring a container to mix them in.*
Wrath laughed mockingly.
‘A container?’
-*Exactly. If hands fail, pour them into a vessel!*
Wrath flicked his tongue, more in derision than genuine advice.
Yet, within his mocking words, Raon glimpsed an idea.
‘Yes, I can make a container.’
Raon nodded, closing his eyes.
‘It’s not about the materials first; I need a vessel.’
Without summoning either the Ring of Fire or Glacier, he drew upon *Blade That Cuts Through Death*.
*Woooong!*
In his grasp, the white aura emanated as he infused it with the energies of the Ring of Fire and Glacier.
*Chiiiing!*
Unlike before, when the red fire and blue fury dispersed, they now merged, absorbing warmth in the Blade That Cuts Through Death.
[A new flow has been established.]
[All stats increase by 10 points.]
[The attribute of *Blade That Cuts Through Death* has leveled up.]
Messages of stat and attribute increases appeared.
-*Wha… What…?*
Wrath trembled, staring at the messages.
‘Thank you, Wrath. Your advice is always spot-on.’
-*A-Advice?! I wasn’t advising!*
‘You told me to use a vessel, and it worked.’
Raon grinned, lifting the *Blade That Cuts Through Death*, now containing both Wrath and the Ring of Fire.
‘You’re the ever-giving tree, Wrath.’
-*Damn it! I was only mocking you!*
Wrath cursed, now a strawberry-flavored cotton candy, yelling at the sky.
‘Finally…’
With a white glow in his hand, Raon gazed toward the Lord’s Manor, a fierce light flashing in his red eyes.
‘It’s time to call out the name, Derus Robert.’
(TL Note : We will start referring the leader of Holy Sword Alliance as the Sacred Sword Saint instead of just Sword Saint)
